Survival Skills for Women Kicks off in Milton

The Children’s Services Center’s Survival Skills for Women will be holding a class on October 13 from 5:30- 8:30 p.m. in the Parsonage at the First United Methodist Church in Milton.  The class, called Community Resources, allows the participant to develop a guide of community resources.

Survival Skills for Women is a unique program designed to assist women who are seeking a way out, a way over, or a way up. It is a series of ten three hour workshops that provides participants with the tools they need to establish and maintain healthy relationships and lifestyles. The course provides classroom and hands on learning experiences on many topics.

Several women who have attended the workshops have a success story to share about how the classes have positively affected their lives and the lives of others.

Leanice, a young mother having difficulty disciplining her three sons took the course and made changes to her parenting skills. Her husband witnessed her new behavior and quickly saw improvement. He commented, “She is doing better by taking this class. Thanks.”

Dianne, a recent divorcee came to the class for direction and support and got much more than she expected. Within two days of the class, Dianne was to appear in court regarding a domestic violence injunction against her husband.  With no attorney present, Dianne used the skills she learned in the course and successfully obtained an injunction on her own.  Dianne says her expectations were met with just that first class.
